Bitumen, often referred to as asphalt in the United States and some other regions, is a black, sticky, highly viscous, semi-solid or solid form of petroleum. Its primarily composed of complex hydrocarbons and also contains elements like sulfur, oxygen, nitrogen, and heavy metals.
